100% Boy

Caleb and Ben are all-boy. They love to play outside. They love to play outside in the dirt. Fortunately right next to our house, there are multiple construction sites. This afternoon, we set out to go to the park, but we instead we just stopped next door to play in the dirt. 

 That big pit created a big pile of dirt across the street.

 Caleb was king of the dirt mountain tonight. He went up and down and up and down again and again.

 Ben liked sitting and playing in the dirt. This was good practice for his walking :).

Caleb is developing a great imagination. Can you guess what animal he was today? We weren't quite sure why he kept placing rocks in his shirt, but it made us all laugh.

 Somehow, we convinced the boys it was time to head home for a bath.

And the reward was popcorn and a movie.

We love our little boys!

Happy National Day!

We have had a fun last couple of days. We have spent a lot of time hanging around at home and exploring around town. My dad and Tes have exchanged a couple of recipes. There has been a lot of good food to go around.

Today is National Day. People are out celebrating the independence of the country, and everywhere you go you see people are proud to be Kuwaiti. Caleb's school had a National Day party on Sunday and all the kids were dressed in festive clothes, including Caleb :).

Both boys were festive today too.

We have a couple of days off because of National Day today and Liberation Day tomorrow.  Today we decided to visit the zoo.

 Last time we went to the zoo, we were packed in like sardines. Today it was almost completely empty, and the boys had a lot of space space to run around and watch the animals.

 We even saw the Kuwaiti Air Force planes flying over for the air show downtown later today.

 Afterwards, we ate at McDonalds and played at one of our favorite parks.

 Most of us got naps, and grandma and Ben read books.

 Later in the day, we went to a friend's house to play and eat dinner. They have 6 kids, who are all very sweet and well-mannered. The boys had fun playing with them, and we all had a good time together.

It was a fun day!

Yazmin Farms

We explored a lot the last couple of days. Yesterday we tried to go for a walk along the Gulf, but it was so busy we could not find a place to park. Kuwait is celebrating their National Day and Liberation Day next week, and really the celebrating began this weekend. The weather has been gorgeous, so people are getting outside. The Gulf was packed with people, so we decided to come back another day. Instead, we ended up taking a driving tour around the downtown area, and picked out a few places to come back to next week.

Today we drove south into the desert a few miles from the Saudi Arabia Border, to a place called Yazmin Farms. It was a nice drive, and my parents enjoyed seeing camels, oil refineries, and lots of other things they do not get to see in Hawaii. 

When we arrived in the town of Wafra, we found ourselves amongst a lot of greenery! Wafra is the southernmost city in Kuwait, and it is well known for its fertile soil and farms. 

And we got to see cows!

Both boys were mooing by the end of our visit :).

 Before leaving, we visited their Farmer's Market. They sold fresh vegetables, milk, cheese, and eggs. Everything looked so good, but we just left with some freeze dried apples and strawberries.

 On the way home, we stopped at a seaside neighborhood to get some kebab, hummus, and coffee, and to walk around.

The boys received some new movies tonight from Grandpa and Grandma. Caleb was pretty excited about all the Dr. Seuss movies. I think there will be a lot of movie watching the next few weeks.
